My Honest Thoughts on Graduating

Image
"It doesn't matter if you never accomplish your goals or accomplish any one of your dreams, if you are enjoying the journey " -Ryan Higa, American YouTuber. Welcome back or welcome to  Adventures at Franklin! This is my final post. It has been a wonderful experience, and for my last post, I want to provide some of my thoughts on graduating.  I am so happy for the experience of being a Franklin student for 3 and a half years. I have had many great adventures, and met so many wonderful people.  I will look back at the memories and people that I have met with great fondness over the coming years.  I am relieved to be done. I managed my time extremely well over my last semester, so I was never too stressed but at the same time, the closer and closer it got to the end of the semester, the more I wanted to be finished.  I am anxious for the future. I took some time to decide my next steps, and now it is time to actually put what I planned into action. It is frighten...

Fall 2020 in Review

Image
"We do not learn from experience we learn from reflecting on experience" -  John Dewey, American philosopher, psychologist, and educational reformer.   Welcome back or welcome to Adventures at Franklin ! Another semester has come and gone, which means another semester in review post. This semester was extremely unique. In the COVID-19 times, we have had to be flexible. Classes, activities, and events all needed to be a hybrid of virtual and in person, so I think it is only fitting that I split this post into these two sections.  In-person:  There were a lot of events just like from years past, but not as many in person. Here are some of the highlights of events that were able to occur in-person. There are a few FUS traditions which I was very happy to see remain.  Virtual:  The beginning of the semester, when many people were in quarantine, had many events online. The Franklin community really did their best and tried to put together as many events as pos...

Why I came to Franklin

Image
"May your choices reflect your hopes , not your fears " -Nelson Mandela,  South African Anti-Apartheid Revolutionary, Political Leader and Philanthropist. Orientation 2017 (you can see me near the front!) Welcome back or welcome to Adventures at Franklin! This is my final week at Franklin University Switzerland :O and I wanted to share why I chose FUS, so that any prospective students who are thinking about attending FUS can get an idea about on whether or not to consider FUS. This post was inspired by a post of the same title , written by Jessica ( Adventures at Franklin creator).  Quite simply, I chose Franklin University Switzerland because it fit me and what I wanted from my university experience.  Firstly, I did not want to be a face in the crowd. Franklin's small student population makes it so every student can stand out if they want to and not just be a number. Professors will know who you are, staff will know who you are, and students will know who you are. I alw...

My Favorite Memories at FUS: AMx2

Image
"Every great achiever is inspired by a great mentor" - Lailah Gifty Akita, Ghanaian Author.  Welcome back or welcome to Adventures at Franklin ! This post is the last of a 3 part series where I reflect on my favorite memories at FUS. Feel free to check out part 1 on Orientation , and part 2 on Academic Travel , in case you want to read about my other favorite memories :) My time at FUS is almost over. I have 2 weeks left! One of the best things I have done at FUS is be an Academic Mentor (AM). In fact, the first time was so good, I had to do it twice! (No in reality I was lucky enough to have the opportunity to do it twice 😂). AMs helps new students transition to university life. AMs are a part of the First Year Seminar program, which is designed to introduce new students to the demands of university academics. AMs also help with orientation as student leaders, and will always be happy to support new students. Here are some of my favorite memories from my experiences. Traini...

" You have all the tools and resources you need. What you do with them is up to you " -  Chérie Carter-Scot author, American author, Master Certified Executive, Life Coach. Welcome back or welcome to Adventures at Franklin!  Today, I provide the ULTIMATE list of resources for prospective students. This post is inspired by a previous post on Adventures at Franklin, entitled " Top Five Resources for Prospective Students ", which came out in 2017. There are some things to update, but I also want to expand on that post and provide a list of resources in one space. I hope that this post will help prospective students to gain information about different resources at Franklin University Switzerland (FUS) without having to spend a lot of time going through the FUS website or other sites. Prospective students, I am basically doing the work of researching the things you need to know about FUS for you, so you're welcome 😂😂😂😂 As mentioned,  Top Five Resources for Prosp...

Franklin First Impressions 2!

Image
“A good first impression can work wonders ” -Joanne Rowling, British Writer and Philanthropist.  Welcome back or welcome to Adventures at Franklin!  Last week I brought back an old series from 2016, and today we do the same! The first Franklin First Impressions post was an opportunity for new students to share their first impressions on FUS through writing. Today, I'm so happy to have some new students share their first impressions of FUS during this extraordinary time through video! I sat down with 4 freshmen and 1 junior study abroad to hear about their stories. Check it out below! It is great to see that despite only being at the university for little over a month, these students have already recognized and experienced some of the best things that the university has to offer. FUS offers so many opportunities. As students, we can get to know our professors, travel to amazing places, study in a beautiful setting, and meet people from all over the world. For these new stu...

Fall 2020 Thus Far

Image
Welcome back or welcome to Adventures at Franklin! Every year at FUS is very different, but the start to the fall 2020 semester has been particularly different. Orientation was virtual. People have had to quarantine. Classes have both online and in-person. The North Campus Dining Hall is open for longer than the Grotto?!?!?! 🤯🤯🤯 These are just some of the changes that fall 2020 has brought. I wanted to use this week's post to highlight some of the other changes that fall 2020 has brought, but I also wanted to highlight some of the constants and FUS traditions that have remained. Here is a quick summary of the events of fall 2020 thus far.  Orientation Week: This year, orientation week was virtual for the first time ever. I have covered what a traditional orientation week looks like, which you can read about here . A virtual orientation can never replace how fun, how hectic, and how memorable an actual in-person orientation can, but I think the orientation team did a wonderf...

The Franklin Podcast! Episode 3

Image
Welcome back or welcome to Adventures at Franklin! Another week means another episode of The Franklin Podcast! Here are Episodes 1 and 2 in case you need to get caught up :) Episode Description: "During the regular academic year, students have a wealth of resources available to help them succeed. One of these is the language tutors at the Writing and Learning Center (WLC). These tutors hold regular, weekly tutoring sessions with groups of students from the various language classes, tutoring students up to the 300 level. During the summer, however, these sorts of resources are cut down, as there are also not too many students taking language classes. Yet, this summer, a couple students decided to change that, with Vasco Aguglia offering tutoring to interested students taking Italian classes and Rim Maslouh supporting students taking French classes. Anushka Bagde, on the other hand, held group tutoring and study sessions to help motivate students of any subject. Listen to today...

Introducing SGA! A Spotlight on the 2020-2021 Executive Board

Image
Welcome back or welcome to Adventures at Franklin. 7 years, 121 posts about life at Franklin University Switzerland (FUS), yet there are very few mentions of the Student Government Association (SGA), but that changes today. SGA is one of the of the most important and active voices on campus. As per the FUS website, “SGA elected by the student body at large, assumes the duty of representing students’ needs and interests in all facets of University life, from academics to student engagement… SGA is responsible for providing students opportunities to develop and enhance their leadership abilities while promoting institutional improvement and innovation”. In this post of Adventures at Franklin,  it's wonderful to have the Executive Board for 2020-2021 share their stories by introducing themselves and providing some insight into SGA. ----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------...
